Offered through respected yoga organisation TSYP, and taught entirely online by Sarah Waterfield, this course is for beginners and more experienced chanters alike. The course can act as a precursor to the TSYP Vedic Chant Teacher training course, or can be done purely to deepen your own knowledge and practice of Vedic chanting, and for your own personal development. Beginners will gain a thorough grounding in Vedic chanting, and more experienced chanters will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and refine their technique, whilst participating in a structured course with a consistent group.
60 hours live online group sessions (6 hours per month for 10 months) plus 2 one-hour 1:1 tutorials.
About 70% of the course time will be learning chants in the traditional call and response way, and the summary meaning of the chants, 20% of the course time will be devoted to the history, theory and benefits of Vedic chanting and the sanskrit language, and 10% to doing practices that combine sound with āsana, prānāyāma and meditation.

Particular features of the online chanting course
The technology does not permit us to chant together as a group so initially in the chanting sessions the students will be on mute and will only hear the tutor. For people who feel inhibited or unconfident about making sound this can be an advantage! Later in the course when students are more confident there will be opportunities to come off mute and chant individually in turn, and thus hear and learn from each other. The 2 one-hour 1:1 online tutorials per student will allow the tutor to really hear the student and address any issues.
Contributions, questions, feedback and group interaction will be encouraged during the lectures and discussion sessions, and at the beginning and end of each day.
The group size is limited to a maximum of 12 students in order to establish a good group feeling.
£550.00 paid to TSYP, paid either as a lump sum or as £150 deposit and £80 a month for 5 months. Other payment plans can be negotiated if necessary. There is a TSYP concessions policy for cases of financial hardship.
